services

At KIDS, services are grounded in Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs) — an evidence-based framework that supports communication, emotional regulation, social development, and independence through meaningful, relationship-based learning.

Services may be eligible for funding through the British Columbia Autism Funding Unit, depending on the funding category.

1:1 developmental support & guided learning

Individualized support that targets meaningful goals using natural, play-based interactions. Sessions occur within daily routines, play, and environments where learning matters most. Goals may include things like communication, emotional regulation, engagement, flexibility, and independence — always tailored to each child’s strengths and priorities.

caregiver partnership & coaching

We work collaboratively with caregivers — not just for them. Caregiver coaching is designed to build confidence, practical understanding, and skills you can use across home, school, and community settings. This includes strategies that align with NDBI principles, such as embedding learning into real-life routines and using natural opportunities for communication and engagement.

community & school collaboration

We partner with schools, daycares, and community organizations to support consistency across environments. This includes consultative planning, team collaboration, classroom strategies, and shared goal planning — all grounded in developmental and naturalistic practices rather than rigid protocols.

skills and focus areas

We support development across multiple domains, including:

social engagement & play learning

Meaningful social learning occurs through natural play, shared attention, turn-taking, and flexible interaction — not scripts or drills.

functional communication

Supporting meaningful ways for children to express needs, wants, and experiences in ways that feel empowering and practical.

emotional regulation & coping skills

Supporting children to recognize, manage, and recover from big emotions, transitions, and overwhelm through co-regulation and developmental strategies (regulation before expectation).

executive functioning & learning readiness

Supporting attention, task initiation, flexibility, persistence, and engagement within everyday routines and activities.

daily living & independence skills

Building independence in everyday routines, self-care, transitions, community participation, and age-appropriate responsibilities through real-life learning opportunities.

caregiver coaching & support

Caregivers are essential partners. We support understanding, confidence, consistency, and skill application across settings using compassionate, realistic, and respectful strategies.
